Did you know that most of My Own Cuvee’s wines come from Pays d’Oc? They do. Here some fun facts, what it means, what to look for when it comes to this paradise of French varietel wines, located in the department of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the south of France:

The tested Pays d’Oc wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon region bear the distinction proudly on the bottles labels –Indication Géographique protégée (IGP)  -(protected geographical indication). This is a European quality mark and is simultaneously a promise of quality by the winery to the customer.

Numerous wineries offer varietal wines with the distinction Pays d’Oc IGP. Pays d’Oc is the number 1 of 75 IGPs in France and is home to 92% of the IGP-varietal wines produced in France. All Pays d’Oc IGP wines are controlled and reliable wine quality because all Pays d’Oc IGP wines are checked by sensors.

The region boasts 2,600 farms, cultivating vineyards on over 100,000 hectares, yiedling about 56 varieties. It breaks down to 52% red, 25% white wines and 23% rosé.

Visiting wineries with the IGP distinction, the customer always get a very good price-pleasure ratio and a great selection of different styles. The wineries produce not only excellent varietal wines, they have mastered the art of cuvées*.

14 million tourists come annually to Languedoc-Roussillon: it has 200 kilometers of Mediterranean beaches, the steep slopes of the Pyrenees, wooded valleys, wild garrigue, the lagoons (Etangs) and  of course, the wineries. Definitely worth a visit. In the meantime, you can try their wines here.
