Many people don’t really know what ” cuvée” means. We would like to give more insight by curating knowledge from around the web.
The Decanter Blog also known as wine without snobbery (which we like very much) says this:
“In essence, it means it’s a mix. If used on labels, it usually means that the wine is based on several different grapes.”
Here we would like to add, that many famous wines, like a Bordeaux, for example, is a cuvée, consisting typically of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Here is what Vine Pair has to say:
“While there are both red and white Bordeauxs, the name Bordeaux is primarily associated with the red wine blend. Red Bordeaux is a red wine that is always made from blending Cabernet Sauvignon wine and Merlot wine together, though the proportion of each depends on the location of the winery that made the wine.”
The blending of wines is an art. And like anything worth doing, it requires practice. Sound daunting?
